The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will not scrap the “Thailand Pass” scheme, as has been widely anticipated, but will shorten the registration process for overseas tourists applying to enter Thailand as the “Test and Go” one-night quarantine scheme for the fully vaccinated is scheduled to come to an end on May 1, CCSA assistant spokesperson Sumanee Wacharasint said today (Thursday).

Dr. Sumanee added, however, that when COVID-19 situation in the country steadily improves, the CCSA may consider further easing of restrictions.

She explained that there are currently four steps in the “Thailand Pass” application process, namely checking of vaccination certification, checking of the evidence of advanced hotel bookings, checking of proof of insurance coverage while in Thailand and proof of booking for RT-PCR testing.

Making a holiday a list of chores... Good riddance, Thailand! Do they really think that tourists are so desperate to travel to Thailand? Perhaps expats and returning Thais, but 5 or 6 million tourists? Haha...

From the 1st of May there are 3 documents to check.

- Passport

- Proof of Vaccination

- Insurance certificate

Under Thailand Pass there are more documents to check.

- Passport

- Proof of Vaccination

- Insurance certificate

- The Thailand Pass itself

For anyone who has ever travelled under the Thailand pass knows that having the pass alone is not sufficient, at the check in Airport, at the transit airport and upon arrival ALL documents are fully checked making the Thailand Pass itself utterly superfluous.

At one point the idea may have made sense, but the system was clumsy and flawed what seemed to be the intention of ‘just being able to flash a QR code’ (like an electronic boarding pass) never materialised...  the Thailand pass just turned out to be an additional step on top of securing the required documents.

Perhaps the only use it did have was to ensure people had the right documents which would all be checked on arrival anyway...  (time wasting).

And now... There really is no need at all for the Thailand pass, none whatsoever.

We can easily carry a vaccine and insurance certificate...  Thats all thats needed.

I really didn't think Thailand Pass was a massive hassle when I last used it. Just do it well in advance.  Did I think it was useful ..not really.

Prepare for another flip flop in the morning, then another just after lunch. Malaysia just scrapped testing pre-departure and on arrival for vaccinated travellers. No masks outdoors. No tracing app.

Thai Pass is a ridiculous block for people to come and go freely at this point. It's meant to now just confirm vaccination status and insurance. Except you don't just scan a QR code and on your way. Nope. You'll be showing all the documents you needed to apply for Thai Pass and the Thai Pass.

Having been through thaipass 2 times now, I was expecting it to be dumped, yet again they fall behind the rest of the world. Tourists just don't want the chappy thaipass, even with it they still have to fill in TM6 on the plane. They have no idea what they are doing, except publish bull numbers of expectations of tourists.

The 2 times I have arrived, 20% were maybe tourists the rest returning expats and thais. ????

The prime minister (lol) couldn’t care less about the hassles tourists face, the stifling of the economy, the plight of Thais and even levels of covid in the country. It is ALL about control, enriching them and theirs, and fashioning the unfortunate Thailand into how they would want to see it and screw everyone else. Horrible, arrogant, egoistic, selfish urchins.

Being the masters of flip-flops I wouldn't be surprised if they change their minds (yet again).

Will proof of hotel booking  be dropped?

  • Popular Post

This continuing nonsense matters little to me currently, as I do not need to go back to the uk for couple days until March/April next year.

Thing is , with these complete idiots in charge thinking Thailand is some premium destination nobody can live without, I fear this self enforced nonsense will still be around then !

Follow the dots for new fishhook...

3rd dot   Vaccinated ... OK

4th dot   Unvaccinated ... OK

5th dot   Those who have been in contact .........

What does that mean    and how about the 5days quarantine + 5days "under observation" ??????

Wonder which Somchai will determine you have been in "close contact" and how they plan to shunt you into "quarantine"???

Idiots just can't seem to resist inserting fishhooks

So now I'm pondering ... even if the thpass update looks OK & I go ahead & book

The quarantine risk is still there even when you have no symptoms

People have been allowed to quarantine at home / hotel.

There was a post in this forum. A couple refused to go to the Quarantine hotel after one of them tested positive & were allowed to walk out of their T&G hotel & walk home (isolated there).

Its probably going to be different for everyone & depends a lot on the hotel I imagine.

As far as the ‘close contact thing’ that’s just theatre… nothing is being done about that.

I’ve been in and out of Thailand all year. No issues.

Thanks for the reassurance Richard

Still nervous tho

Didn't they cancel the need for hotel bookings and PCR testing as of midnight Friday? (Thailand Time)

All moot as well.. as those ‘steps’ (vaccine cert & insurance) are triple checked at every step of the journey in anyway !!!

4 documents needed:

- Flight ticket

- Passport

- Insurance cert

- Vaccine Cert / OR 5 Day ASQ booking

That’s as difficult as it ever needs to be !!!

Got that insurance in their jaws and holding on to it like bulldog with a bone.

Recently,  Khun Anutin, a member of the present Government, said......End of Thailand Pass coming soon.

Luckily I did not rush o by my ticket to Thailand.

It is difficult to think that the present government wants any tourists to ever come o Thailand.

My wife was saying last week they will go back to square one as they are losing money off their scams

You may be right, I guess we will need to see what COVID brings as we head into the winter months.

I'm pretty sure the situation won't be the same as it is now, and nearly every single one of the potential tourists will not have been vaccinated for a year by then.

All or nothing - my money is on nothing - this country deserves to pay for its incompetence.
