In the first four months of this year, there were 32 lightning strikes, killing nine people and injuring nine, damaging 11 homes, and killing 23 cattle. According to the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), the injuries occurred in the provinces of Kampong Speu, Prey Veng, Kampot, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey. Compared to the same period in 2021, the number of injuries has increased, but the number of deaths has decreased slightly.

 

Khun Sokha, NCDM spokesman, said that in the first four months of 2021, there were 24 lightning strikes, killing 18 people and injuring six, and killing 19 cattle. He said that this year, the rainy season seems to be earlier than last year due to climate change, and there has been heavy rainfall.
