The Angkor Botanic Garden in Siem Reap city will be open to public this month. Meanwhile, the garden is slated to be officially inaugurated on May 19. Admission will be free of charge for a month. The garden located along Sihanouk boulevard towards Angkor Wat is decorated with more than 500 species of plants and flowers and tens of thousands of trees, according to Apsara National Authority.

Yit Chandaroat, Deputy Director-General of Apsara National Authority, said on Tuesday that the Angkor Botanical Garden, originally named the Angkor Spice Garden, and started building on about 2 hectares of land in 2005 has now been expanded to more than 15 hectares of land. He said that initiative was made by Land Management Minister Chea Sophara to make the Garden more attractive and be greater potential for tourism.

Chandaroat said the Garden comprises five different large gardens, including a spice garden and herb garden with a variety of medicinal plants that are used in treatment of various diseases, and plants that are used as spices for cooking.
