Are expats confident the new President is good for the future?

OK so all though the final count must be made it looks likely that Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr will take over as President in a few weeks.

Already mighty China has congratulated “Bongbong” and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, over their massive lead in the presidential and vice-presidential elections.

 

“China congratulates the Philippines on the smooth presidential election. Our congratulations also go to the leading candidates,” China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said Wednesday.

 

Marcos has enjoyed close ties with China, owing largely to his father’s establishment of diplomatic relations with the country in 1975.

 

Naturally, China and the States are vying for the Philippine's support as the South China Sea issue is still unresolved.

 

Russia has also been helping and the outgoing President Duterte said he counted Putin as a personal friend.

 

So, if you are an expat living in the Philippines you would most likely know that power broking was an everyday occurrence.

 

How do you feel now about the future stability of the country and the way it will be run?

 

Are you feeling a bit concerned that the new President may decide to lean towards a pact with China or would you prefer a deal with the United States?

 

Cost of living is probably more of an immediate concern with expats however a change at the top can either be seen positively or negatively.
