Daily News went to a housing estate in Bang Rak Noi, Nonthaburi north west of Bangkok after a stabbing incident last Friday.

Anat, 17, was roughed up then stabbed in the abdomen and ribs after three men arrived on a motorcycle.

He lived but is grievously ill in hospital.

His 40 year old mother told reporters that she believes it was a case of mistaken identity because a boy who lives next door who is having problems with a gang is also called Anat and even looks like him.

She said that last Friday her son was sitting in a grassy area in the estate when the three men arrived.

He then went to be with four friends when the men approached them. The other guys ran for their lives leaving Anat confused.

He was punched, kicked then stabbed twice.

Satisfied with their handiwork the assailants then cooly left.

She said that her son had never had any trouble with anyone and the gang were clearly after the neighbor and it was a case of mistaken identity.

The younger brother of the other Anat said it was true. His elder sibling is in hiding elsewhere as the gang are determined to kill him.

Daily News didn't say what it was about, just that the Bang Sri Muang police were studying CCTV to try and get a lead.
