Daily News Thai Caption: Merit worthy

Daily News reporters - who clearly didn't have much better to do - went to Rayong after hearing about a lucky eel, notes ASEAN NOW.

Manop, 30, a resident of Klaeng said that he has a sideline job - catching eels.

He uses a PVC pipe and shellfish as bait in a swamp next to his house.

He was stunned when he caught an albino eel - he'd never seen the like of it.

Now all the locals were turning up to pray to it in the hope of winning the lottery.

He said he's been offered 10,000 baht for the 300 gram, 67 cm long specimen but no way was he selling his "lucky" catch.

Thais, it appears, will stop at nothing to try and get the winning numbers.

In another story today on ASEAN NOW they thought that the death of a fisherman would lead them to riches in the next draw, due June 1st.
