Naew Na Thai Caption: Jail - million baht fine! National Park authority says stop selling and hunting wild animals

Naew Na reported the comments of the director of the Wildlife Conservation office of Thailand's national parks authority.

He said that currently there are 26,065 wild animals in care as a result of various reasons.

Many were in care awaiting return to the wild after rehabilitation.

Some would have to be kept in cages until their death, however.

There were 189 Tiger lions (this may be a liger, notes ASEAN NOW, or tigers and lions).

There are 27 leopards, eight fire tigers, 225 different varies of bear, 2,456 gibbons and lemurs, 194 lorises, 877 hawks and 87 otters.

These are not pets, he said, and their possession could lead to five years in jail and/or fines of half a million baht.

People trading in such species could expect double that in fines and imprisonment.

I believe an offered death penalty might be a better choice.

No jailings, fines, bail or parole.

A sad situation for the animals but hopefully freedom calls.

Big fines up to one million, perhaps similar fines for landowners that have fires on their land, yes I know, wishful thinking.  What is it currently- 5,000?

Pity we don't have as much will power to create huge Natural National Park spaces big enough and fenced off for large and endangered species with patrols effective enough to protect them as we do to make weapons of war and kill each other and everything else.
