First, we had to handle the health effects caused by the Covid 19 Pandemic and now the cost of living is adding to our everyday problems.

People are forced to borrow money just to keep their heads above the water.

Stress levels are high, and it is like a time bomb likely to explode at any time.

Every day there are reports of crimes and assault and the authorities are struggling to cope.

Kidnapping case

Last Tuesday, a Russian man was sentenced to seven years in jail for kidnapping a compatriot in the central province of Binh Thuan to extract a debt.

Khlebostroev Konstantin, 25, was put on trial before Binh Thuan People’s Court for robbery. Khlebostroev committed the crime with Kristalenko Dmitrii, 29, and two others, though all three have left Vietnam.

Khlebostroev was accused of threatening and stealing VND45 million ($1,940) from Shedko Dmitrii, 34, another Russian who was sentenced to seven months in jail late last month for growing cannabis plants and storing narcotics, also in Binh Thuan.

Vietnamese murders

A woman stabbed a man to death after he urinated in front of her house in Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Binh District on Sunday.

Phan Ngoc Le, 56, is currently under investigation for "murder."

She said while her family was gathering for a death anniversary party Sunday evening, a man in his thirties came and urinated in front of her house in an alley.

Also, a Dominican national was sentenced to 12 years in prison in Japan for the murder of a Vietnamese man in August last year.

Brian Alberto Cabrera Cruz, 27, beat a Vietnamese man and pushed him into Dotonbori River in Osaka.

Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control

At a National Assembly discussion recently regarding a draft update for the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control, delegate Le Minh Nam proposed to add certain behaviors that affect the mental health of family members, like checking each other's messages and comparing one's partner with other people, as cases of domestic violence.

Nam said mental abuse works gradually and insidiously, causing lifelong trauma.

It is clear that the stress levels are likely to get worse as the World tries to cope with rising prices and inflation.

So, we all need to be more aware of our neighbors’ problems.

Just wait until a liter of petrol goes to 80 Baht/Liter.
Then you can watch a social phenomenon occur that is directly related to stress.  In the meanwhile, the 1% become a few hundreds of billions of dollars (trillions of THB) richer.  But if social upheaval occurs, the "experts" and the elite will declare anther pandemic and lock the commoners in their houses until they have a change of attitude.
