Thaksin might return on Aug 14

Deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra might return to Thailand on August 14 to defend a graft charge over the Ratchadapisek land deal, one of his legal team said yesterday.

He would make a one-day trip then rush back to the United Kingdom due to his fear of arrest, a source said.

"I have started to keep track of dates in Outlook."

I am sorry but i find this hilarious.

Is this in general as one does or Thaksin specific?

Does hypnotism help with paranoia or do you have to see a real medical specialist for that and not a snake oil salesman?

not a chance he will come back ,if he asks for political asylum in uk due to the coup he will get it,court via satalite i feel :o

is there an extradition agreement between the two countries?

Yes - its quite a long standing one.

This one-day-trip announcement tells me he's staging something. Even though he clearly has no intention of returning, at some point he will probably board a private plane heading back to Thailand (with fanfare) and then turn the plane around on pretext of a last-minute warning about an assassination attempt. He always loved these imaginary assassination scenarios.

It sounds like great drama but what are the factors you are basing that on? I know he has to do something to allow the UK see things a little different than just a no show. Already I can see he is starting to be a stone in their shoe.

One factor.

His constant Hollywoodesque quest for compassion, whatever the cost. His reality tv show, handing out 1000 baht notes. Him willingly standing in the rain, soaking wet in Chonburi on a stage with electrical wiring all around it, giving his speech with thunder and lightning overhead. Exploding air conditioner unit, motorcycle involved in an accident with his motorcade, bomb in a car near his BKK residence, turned out to be assassination attempts against him, according to... him.

He's not done with the compassion game yet as he has bought himself a new audience in the U.K.

Police Chief explains ousted PM's cases to British Ambassador

The acting Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol. Gen. Seripisuth Temiyavej, says he has clarified the cases of deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to the British Ambassador to Thailand.

Pol. Gen. Seripisuth says the Office of the Attorney-General would proceed with the lawsuits of Dr. Thaksin while the arrest warrant might be issued if he refuses to attend the hearing. The arrest warrant will then be forwarded to Dr. Thaksin’s residence in England and it will abide by the British laws.

Pol. Gen. Seripisuth insists that the Royal Thai Police would facilitate and provide full security to deposed Prime Minister Thaksin if he returns to Thailand, either on his own or by extradition.

The Brits will never extradite Thaksin on claims of 'corruption' - even though they may well be true. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. The Brits will just laugh at that. A coup deposes a democratically elected leader that pissed off the middle classes who couldn't get rid of him then asks Britain to send him back to the arms of the Generals? - yeah right.

If they really want him back here they ought to think about charges relating to Tak Bai and the extrajudicial drugwar killings. It more or less worked in Europe regarding Pinochet from Chile. But please, forget "corrruption! corruption!" What a joke.
