Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha said that the purchase deal of submarines with China was ongoing and still has time for engine procurement after they insisted to purchase the submarines currently without “engines”.

 

In April, the government insisted on buying a 13.5-billion-baht submarine from China Shipbuilding & Offshore International without Germany’s MTU396 diesel engines despite the fact that the German company had stopped exporting its engines to China due to the country’s use for military purposes.

 

The issue was brought into discussion in a debate again today by government oppositional parties. The Prime Minister stated in response that the purchase deal is still in line with the contract which still has 60 days remaining to complete the purchase.

I think it’s reasonable… Xi is trying to save them some money as he know that since there is no use for it other than show off, so why need to waste money on engine. 
It’s a fair deal Supreme leader….

if it was in any way free of pork, they would have run a mile by now, retirement is expensive with General Jiphat Jones and his wife and merc and mansions and mea noi to keep up with!

They will never leave the boat pens, and eventually, a tourist attraction, with us payng extra, of course!

Do the Russians not supply at least an initially working submarine engine of their own production ? Doubt they would use MTU. Then this could be used for it is evident that (at least) one more submarine is essential for Thailand. Or is it not ?

 

They just should not forget to bring enough diesel to make it run before they dive.

Maybe it's solar powered. ????

Since it won’t be diving, why not add solar power?

They should look at Pakistans experience if buying Chinese made destroyers ,engines break down, missile systems inaccurate .Pakisan has had to rebuild their purchase .

The sub is only for play ,doesn't need an engine. 

If they need it fora bit of Fun/ practice ,they can put an old Cat engine in from a Retired Excavator
