OPINION

 

Thailand is not the first country to legalize the cultivation and sale of cannabis and hemp for recreational use, but it requires a well-planned approach and preparation to ensure people’s safety.

 

To commercialize the crops, the seller needs to have the proper training and know-how, to deliver the consumer the real benefit and minimize harm.

 

Unarin Kitpaiboonthawee, the owner of the biggest greenhouse hemp farm in Southeast Asia, Cannabiz Way, said that she spent 3 years on research, and finally got her license to grow a year ago. She is now in the middle of her first harvest.

 

“We have to differentiate between Cannabis and Hemp, and between CBD and THC. Today, we look at them all as the same thing. What actually affects mental health, brain functions, and self-control is THC, which needs to be strictly controlled”.

AFAIK cannabis has no proven carcinogenic properties when smoked or ingested orally. OTOH, both alcohol and tobacco do. The statistics are overwhelming in that respect.

 

There's no room for doubt alcohol fuels violence by removing inhibitions. I haven't seen any information to indicate cannabis does the same, its principal effect is euphoria.

 

I intend to use cannabis responsibly, for an arthritic condition. In some countries, it is also prescribed for palliative care.

 

Society needs to learn to use cannabis in moderation, just like everything else.

 

It's now legal in Thailand, get over it.
