Suan Dusit Poll: Thais concerned about legalization of marijuana - see benefits but want youth protected

A poll by Suan Dusit asked six key questions of Thai people online after marijuana was legalized in Thailand on June 9th, reported Naew Na.

 

A total of 2,390 people were polled between 20th and 23rd June.

 

Here are the findings that had few surprises:

 

What is your level of concern after June 9th?

 

37.78% Quite concerned

32.85% Very concerned

16.27% Not very concerned

13.10% Not bothered at all

 

What about the pros and cons?

 

52.79% More cons than pros

30.17% About the same

17.07% More pros

 

What are the pros? Top 3:

 

74.96% The drug can be used for medical purposes

 

46.46% Economic benefits

 

45.3% less would need to be spent on regular meds

 

Your worries? Top 3:

 

84.58% people don't have enough knowledge about weed

 

82.16% kids will be able to get hold of it more easily

 

73.73% lack of laws in place to regulate use

 

What should happen now? Top 3:

 

88.38% Youth should be stopped from accessing marijuana

 

82.26% Ensure regulations are in place to control use, especially as a food additive

 

81.67% regulate everything

 

Is marijuana a political issue?

 

60.54% Of course it is

27.99% Looks that way

9.53% Not really

1.94% Absolutely not

Looks like good honest opinions even though the survey segment is quite small.

All the questions are on most people's minds at the moment. Let's see the same survey in 12 months time, then we will know what direction the dope is taking us.
