There is a drastic increase in consumer intention to travel. Overall, 69% of Thais intend to travel from June to September, which represents a 25 points increase compared to 2021 and even higher levels than in 2019.

“This year’s travel intentions reflect a real excitement for travel, overpassing pre-pandemics levels,” says Julia Ricks, Head of International Travel at Europ Assistance Group.

“Compared to 2021, we observe a significant return to international travel and higher average holiday budgets, supported by a significant decrease in covid-19 related issues that favors airplane trips and destinations like cities,” she adds.

Julia Ricks is refering to Europ Assistance’s annual Holiday Barometer, which has been published for 21 years and the results for this year has just been released.

Who'd have thought it!

1) After being locked down for nearly two years many have the urge to travel and start enjoying their lives again. Also they may not have seen family or friends for those two years either.

2) "Higher average holiday budgets" is likely the result of those people with jobs or investment income having more money due to not being able to spend on travel in the last two years.

The question should be; will this last into 2023 and beyond or this this just pent up demand for now?

As a business owner servicing inbound tourism in London we are currently busier than ever with extreme demand. We don't see it lasting to summer 2023 but hope we are wrong. Haven't seen any Thai clients so far this year (usually got a few pre-pandemic).

I think that you're busy because you are one of the few countries that has relaxed testing requirements and understandably so.  There are few places that are open like the UK.  When the rest of the world opens, let's see what happens.  It's an interesting time in the travel industry that's for sure!

70% ? Seems insanely high to me - I cannot see only 31% having kids at school until October or unwilling to remove them after near 2 years of no education.
