JSL Global Media Co., Ltd, one of Thailand’s leading television content creators, notably for the state-backed network, announced on Thursday a partial shutdown of its business amid losses in recent years.

The shutdown will begin from July 1, signaling an end of its role for over 40 years in the Thai media industry, according to the company’s statement.

Ahead of the statement, reports circulated on social media on Wednesday night that an old media company would abruptly close, prompting JSL to address the situation.

The one thing that has boomed in the past couple of years is entertainment access providers. To see such a well established company as this collapsing its business should be sounding economy alarm bells.

I know Netflix has lost subscribers, but that was after a period of huge growth during the pandemic when people stayed home. It is natural that now people can go out more they have less need of home entertainment. I doubt that that that applies to Thailand to the extent that it does to Netflix.
