geovalin Posted July 5, 2022 Share Posted July 5, 2022 Despite the poor academic performance of students, the Ministry of Education’s budget for this year has been cut instead of getting additional funds to improve students’ achievement and prevent dropouts. According to the Budget Working Group which comprises 20 international and national NGOs, the Education Ministry was budgeted for $797 million for 2022, while in 2021, it received $810 million, a reduction of 1.6%. Data provided to the Khmer Times by the Ministry of Finance attested to this. Covid-19 has not only proven to be a public health crisis but also a disaster for education in Cambodia as the Education Ministry’s most recent study discovered that Cambodian students experienced “learning loss” in the two pandemic years.
