As Thailand struggles to enter a post-pandemic period, an average of 29,000 people in Thailand have caught COVID-19 every day since June 25th, bringing the accumulated total of COVID out-patients to 207,643, according to Spokesman for the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.

“This is the actual number of patients who have mild symptoms”, he said, adding that it is important that the government communicates the real situation to the public.

The number of lung infections this week are 763, including 327 who are on ventilators, he said, adding that the Public Health Ministry has provided an assurance that there are sufficient beds in state hospitals to accommodate severe cases. He said that some of the beds are reserved for patients suffering from other diseases, which may give the impression that there are fewer beds for available severe COVID cases.

This may be pretty close to the truth, but then it may be pretty low in reality with many self isolating and not getting tested at the hospitals, which are seeing an increase in numbers again.  For the non maskers I wonder how they will view the rising cases.

Maybe they ought to publish the real figures then rather than the 2-3k a day they state if they want the public to be aware of the real situation. Sure those published figures are the "Don't we look good" they want the world to see. Majority of the rest of the world has moved on, endemic now, monitored and real situation liaised to the populous if they are interested. Those in charge in Thailand probably haven't a clue what the real situation is as they have no separate national monitoring like the UK ONS surveys carried out, where people can report their symptoms without fear of having to isolate if they so wish. Those in charge just don't want to let go of the control, evident by the Emergency Decree been extended until September. Time to move on, it's endemic like malaria, dengue, flu etc.

THE Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Dr. Thaweesilp Wisanuyothin said after today’s (July 8th) executive committee meeting that the number of cases are rising with there being a small wave in 23 provinces and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha urged the public to only listen to this agency’s news on the situation, Matichon newspaper said.

Among the 23 provinces where a small wave has risen are Bangkok, Chonburi, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Phuket. However, infection is decreasing in 54 other provinces.

Moreover he admitted that the daily Covid tally only mentions patients who have been hospitalised with there being an average of 29,000 patients getting treatment on outpatient basis under the “see, give, end” system during the 26th week or a total of 207,643.

Seeing as 99% of Thais are still wearing them, I view it as confirmation that masks don't work ????

Does this mean the Chinese wont be coming for longer ? Oh, those tourism figures of TEM MILLION  will look dodgy - again

Masks don’t work to help prevent infection? Then why people are still getting Covid?  A mask is not 100 per effective just like everything else.  But it’s a precaution. to spread infection.  That is why doctors and nurses wear them during surgery.
It’s amazing how people complain about wearing a mask to try to prevent Covid. And how uncomfortable a paper mask is to wear.

It's a bit like condoms.... they are effective at stopping people getting STDs, but hey, people are still catching them!

Nothing is guaranteed in life except Death........choose your poison, what does not kill you makes you stronger, well in theory.

I totally agree that it should be an individual's choice without any preaching and condemnation from those who believe otherwise.

That’s “post pandemic”?

Could it be endemic, or should they call it pre-endemic, in between........

I just read the BKK Post and they say 2,084 cases today ?  Sounds like a conspiracy to me.  ????

And in another story I read:  Cases soared especially in Phuket

Phuket News reported 28 cases today.  ????  Soaring?

Soaring just like most of the rhetoric on the subject!

For folks who actually read the OP news clip, it clearly explains the difference between the very small number of daily official cases that are publicly reported vs. the much larger numbers of COVID cases being found and treated every day (but not publicly reported most of the time) under the government's recent changes to its COVID reporting practices:

"Moreover he admitted that the daily Covid tally only mentions patients who have been hospitalised with there being an average of 29,000 patients getting treatment on outpatient basis under the “see, give, end” system during the 26th week or a total of 207,643."

I read the news clip in several newspapers.   It was the sensationalizing headline that is bad ????.

Thailand sees 29,000 daily COVID infections since June 25

Trying to scare the public into thinking there is a bad surge of Covid when  lots of people that have had covid just stay home and isolate.  Covid is here to stay and we don't need scare monger headlines to whip people into a frenzy.  It's bad enough already.

It is no coincidence, in my opinion, that CCSA is now, ONLY now, claiming numbers like 29,000/day, just as they have extended their own role in charge.

Two things matter:

1) consistency. Take e.g. the official figure published every day by the unlinkable national newspaper, it doesn't matter if it refers to hospitalizations only: it shows  numbers of order 2000 since weeks. No increase, if anything a down trend.

2) fatalities. These are of order 20/day, also in a down trend, and most interestingly they never tell us the age, conditions, vaccination status. I think those not too old, fit, vaccinated who succumb to Covid ONLY are very very few.

Wear your mask if you have a reason to (I do), don't wear it if you have no reason, do home testing regularly, ditch the CCSA, and stop the fear mongering.

When did this post-pandemic era and classification officially come about?

Did I [et al] miss something along the way.....?
