Shinzo Abe, former Japanese prime minister, assassinated during campaign speech

Tokyo (CNN)Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe died on Friday after being shot while giving a campaign speech on a street in central Japan, according to public broadcaster NHK.

The assassination of the former world leader in broad daylight has shocked a nation not used to gun violence and prompted an outpouring of support and condolences from the international community.
Abe died from excessive bleeding and was pronounced dead at 5:03 p.m. local time, doctors at the Nara Medical University hospital said during a press conference on Friday.

Perhaps the killer was brainwashed by some others.
perhaps Abe was one of the group who try to convince people that Japan need to defend itself against NK and China by advance western missiles. And maybe more, Japan military.

Don't think he was running, he was stumping for another candidate he supported.  He stepped down a few years ago because of medical issues.  Terrible to see him struck down like this.  One has to wonder if this was a crazy individual that shot him with a home made shotgun, or if it was a carefully concocted hit to destabilize the country.

It can happen  in any country it would seem!

I could have told you that literally 5000 years ago.

Do you remember the Shogun beheadings and all the priests murdered back in the day?

I think what you meant was, "Hey, if it's not America some news agencies might pay attention."

Trust me, there are gun killings going on 500 km from where you are right now.......no matter where you are on Earth.

RIP Mr Abe, a senseless murder.

Let's hope this doesn't spark copycat killings. The world would be a better place without some of the supposed "leaders" but killing them isn't acceptable.

Politicians with skill and diplomacy are hard to come by as it is.

Absolutely disgusting

They surely will be some within 1.4 B of Chinese population celebrating this action,  considering the atrocities and the millions of Chinese victims in WW2 (14 - 50M?).
