“We’re focused on attracting foreigners to step up tourism and draw more money out of their pockets

We know that.. casinos won't do it.

It's for the domestic market and money laundering.

I'm utterly shocked by the naivety of this comment. Have you been to Bangkok and seen the European cars driving round the City at 3 times European prices. Have you drank in any of the packed bars where people sit and drink wine at 3 times European prices. The amount of money is staggering. You need to open your eyes

Yes, I was thinking similar looking around at a very large open air restaurant, very busy with what appeared to be affluent Bangkokians.... this place is not all poor farmers, snakes and insects anymore.

There is a point in life where we must stop thinking about our selves and think about Thai people. Times are hard for them with prices going up each day on everything with no cost of living increases for those who have jobs.

So how does Casinos help them?

Why go to a stinking, cigarette smoke-filled environment when all casino games and (sports books) are available to be played online in the comfort of your own home?

Just need a bank account in your home country and a VPN.

Too easy.

Because some people like to get out of their Mums basement once in a while to socialize, have fun, gamble, drink, womanize.....

I'm utterly shocked at your naivety, the amount of debt owned by Thais trying to keep up with or be one better than the Jones's is utterly staggering. You need to understand that the Thai "saving face" mentality is all about giving the impression of how rich you are perceived to be by your peers.

No Casinos in Macao allow smoking.....and there are plenty.

They used to 20yrs ago then banned it.

Macau and lots of other countries around the world don’t allow smoking in the public gaming areas.

Meanwhile closer to home…

In recent years I’ve been to casinos in various countries bordering Thailand and all gaming areas of each casino was full of cigarette smoke.

They were all disgusting, stinking casino experiences.

Thank goodness all of the same casino games (and more) can be played online in your own home in Thailand if you have an overseas bank account and a VPN - so a friend tells me anyway! ….dare not admit to / nor promote any activity which may not yet be legal in the Kingdom.

I would be very scared to walk into a Casino in Thailand win a lot of money then walk out and go back to my hotel room.

If you are caught counting cards, you will be seeing your maker sooner than you think. Most places, you might lose a couple of teeth, a broken leg or an arm; in Thailand think again.

To prevent Thais from total poverty, they must restrict Thais from frequenting the casinos daily, like they do in St.Maarten and Curaçao.

Their ID cards must be scanned at the entrance and if they have already made their two weekly trips to the casino nationwide they would be flagged, and barred from entry.

Not sure how they will collect  all of guns that the Thais would want to take into these casinos.

Happy gambling guys, remember the "<deleted>" table is always your friend.

LOS or China?

The Chinese government will be the winners IF! this happens.

Chinese developers, Chinese money,. Chinese tourists. Oh, and Chinese diseases.

IMO it will not happen.

I understand that LOS has virtually left but surely this would finally be the end of LOS.

Crime gangs will use them to launder money? You are talking about 4-5 casinos owned by the most well connected families with Government oversight. You really think they will launder money or just reap massive profits. Think about it!

The casino owners don't launder the money - it's the clientele. The casinos facilitate the money laundering as there is often no need to question the source of the money. It's a win-win for all parties.

Casinos are one of the best ways to 'legitimize' large sums of money.

I worked in law enforcement for 20 years. I have 'thought' about it! ????

well, sometimes going out for a night, seeing new people, meeting new people, can be fun.  I admit some casinos are incredibly stinky and smokey.  One thing COVID did here in the USA is many casinos banned smoking during and some still ban it Foxwoods in CT for example is actually pleasant to go to.  In California, many if not most card rooms where you can play Poker and table games such as Pai Gow and versions of black jack are non smoking (Ocean's 11 in Northern San Diego) is the best place for Pai Gow.  now commissions.  Players can bank at almost any time.
