How To Get From Chiang Mai To Nong Khai?

Featured Replies

Im making a trip to Nong Khai, crossing the border to Laos to apply for a Tourist visa in Vientiane. Anyone know how to get there from Chiamg Mai? Are there any busses from Arcade buss station? Or maybe train would be preferable, i dont know. How long does it take? If anyone got telephone number or email that would be splendid or online timetables be awsome. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!!

You could also fly to Udon Thani with NOK air (three times a week), from there it's about an hour to the friendship bridge. Alternatively Lao Air flies directly to Vientiane from Chiang Mai. (sometimes via Luang Prabang).

Flying is your safest option and time wise the most appealing.

You can get a bus to Udon which takes aprox. 12 / 13 hours and then get the aircon bus that goes from there to Ventiene that is dedicated for visa runs ect.

You have convenient stops at the entry and exit points along the way while the bus awaits reboarding.

I used to get the night journey from Lapang to Udon ( It came from C.Mai ) and doze off during the trip.

That was before Nok started their schedule mind.

If i can fly from A to B i do.

The second alternative if it,s possible are the aircon trains via pre. booking the journey and it,s also kinder on your buget if you need to watch your spending as many do.

Not a derogatory comment / observation by the way.

Good luck and enjoy the journey whichever mode you choose.
