No it would not be ironic.  I am an American and even I know the F-35 is not well suited for Thailand or any other less developed nation.  It is simply too expensive to operate.  It’s like a middle income guy buying a Ferrari.

The Click 160 is quite nippy - I think it would be OK

If they are serious about buying US high tech weapons, then this would need a major shift in political strategy away from China ..... unlikely.

 

But if strategic thinking was being employed, they'd be buying hundreds of shoulder launched weapons rather than one F35.  

Much much more involved than just purchasing an F35, these clowns will just be laughed at by the US.
