The Commonwealth Games has been hailed as a great success as it came to a conclusion last night  in Birmingham UK with Australia claiming the most medals, 178 in total. England was second with 176 and Canada third with 92.

 

Tennis - Nick Kyrgios ended a three-year title drought with a dominant victory over Yoshito Nishioka at the Citi Open in Washington DC. He won 6-4 6-3 against his Japanese opponent to claim his first singles title since winning the same hardcourt tournament in 2019.

 

Football - Frenkie de Jong "wants to stay" at Barcelona despite interest from Manchester United, says the club's president Joan Laporta.The Premier League side agreed a near  £64m deal for the Netherlands midfielder last month, but the move is yet to be finalised.

 

De Jong who is 25, came on at half-time and scored in Barcelona's 6-0 friendly win over Pumas UNAM on Sunday and Everton have completed the signing of England centre-back Conor Coady on a season-long loan. The Merseyside-born 29-year-old will wear the number 30 shirt for the Toffees.
