PRIME MINISTER PRAYUT Chan-o-cha may legally perform as defence minister, the post which he has concurrently assumed, if he is ordered by court to stop performing as head of government in the wake of a legal controversy over his eight-year rule, said Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam yesterday (August 22).

Prayut may practically hold onto the defence portfolio and attend cabinet meetings at Government House while leaving the top post of government to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan to perform as a caretaker one if the Constitutional Court orders him to immediately stop performing as prime minister until a court ruling on his eight-year rule maximumly provided by law has been delivered, Wissanu said.

Given the fact that no law prohibits a prime minister from concurrently performing in other capacities, Prayut could continue to run the defence portfolio though he may be immediately stopped by court from running the country as premier, according to the deputy premier in charge of legal affairs.

Wissanu basically makes up interpretations of every law in the book as he goes along. Must be amazing to have that level of power.

Then stage another Coup and be in full power again once the protests start.

Which part of JUST GO (and take all your cronies with you) does he not understand - .....................................LOL

For all we know, he might have the patronage and the green light to stay on from the highest office in the land, otherwise hard to to understand that in a country that is known for coups at the drop hat things have been very quiet lately....

Oh for heavens sake , just kick him upstairs.

Guardian of the Universe or something.

He's also head of 14 other  "departments".  Each department he gets a hefty salary.

Everyone in this government needs to be sentenced to prison for graft and sheer stupidity..

...and remember what entity has to approve and extend their blessings [by law and tradition] regarding every piece of legislation and created policy.

Well, look at it like this: the new PM could always sack his minister of defence.

Problem solved (temporarily).  Except that it would be Tweedledum being replaced by Tweedledee.

And, that's where the big money is.

Tyrannosaurus Wissanu again ....... also on the list of those to be reeled into the archive for good ????

as usual, same function, but different name... Looks they have changed something but in reality everything stays the same.... No ... He has to leave office and the parliament, not transferred to another position

Perfectly legal in a parliamentary system (ie., UK), so long as cabinet members are royally endorsed.

The downside for Defense Minister Prayut is that the caretaker PM cannot impose a State of Emergency that could be used to prevent/punish public protests. Thus, the current SOE likely becomes null and void as caretaker PM Yingluck discovered. That would be boon for opposition parties in an election.

However, Prayut also supervises (self-appointed) the RTP and SDI, assuming he can continue with the permission of the caretaker PM, which would give him certain levers of power.

This is a trait exhibited at all levels of Thai society. Making it up as they go along.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. It is time to retire this relic of the past. He must go. Very few want him, he is not needed, or required. His popularity is at an all time low, though that does not seem to matter much in a nation where all things seem to be manipulated, one way or the other. It is time for the people to choose.

Prayuth has failed in a horrific fashion, by nearly any measurable context. Time to move on. Enjoy your fortune elsewhere. Get a hobby, or do some leisure traveling. Do something, other than make the Thai people miserable. Please.
