Siam Rath updated on the story ASEAN NOW reported yesterday after a large group of middle eastern bikers were racing on Sukhumvit Road.

Chonburi provincial police deputy and spokesman Pol Col Ekkaphop Inthawiwat said that the middle easterners were all tourists in Pattaya between June and August. They come every year.

They rent bikes and drive around in large groups that create annoyance. There had been previous crackdowns.

This time the Pattaya police set up a checkpoint and caught 16 of them for not having licences and not wearing helmets.

A total of 22 vehicles were seized.

Ekkaphop said that action was being taken against the Thai bike shops that rented the vehicles for not checking riders' credentials.

Fines of 2,000 baht would be levied.

He warned all Thai bike renters that they must check licences and other documents of people renting bikes and other vehicles or they will be fined.

Regarding the annoyance whether it is caused by Thais or foreign tourists people should call 191 or 03 821 1300 to report incidents.

Soon, they get a call from the relevant embassies and all will be just a "misunderstanding".

Here, the rich "Arabs" come and rent motorbikes".

In London, they they bring their super luxurious cars to cruise around. That's probably the rich ones.
To Thailand, the poor ones come.

They are calling it "The Thailand Spring."   ????

Yeah 2,000 baht fine, that'll deter them hooligans from behaving like chimps on bikes doing stuff they can't do in their own courtiers..., quality tourists i say...

They should all be deported!

This was a bold move by the BiB. From what I understand, these Arabs, even the "poor" ones, have a lot of clout. I'd bet my bottom 25 satang that the BiB were pushed into this action to save face.

Sixteen arrested, twenty-two motorcycles.

The article in a different news feed says 30 arrested and it also says:

"According to the Thai Road Traffic Act, Section 43 (8), the racers face a penalty of up to three months in jail, a fine of 2,000 to 10,000 baht, or both, because they are considered to be driving recklessly without concerns for the safety and security of others."

"The racers also violated the Thai Road Traffic Act, Section 134: motorists shouldn’t engage in any vehicle racing on the road unless permitted by the authorities. For violating this, the racers would be imprisoned for up to three months, fined from 2,000 to 10,000 baht, or both."

"For the rental shops, they could face a fine of up to 2,000 baht for allowing people without driving licenses to rent and drive a vehicle according to the Vehicle Act, Section 56."

Try fining the rental shops 20,000 Bt instead of 2,000 Bt, and if they are holding the renter's passport double the fine and return the passport to the renter.  That would go a long way toward eliminating renting to those without licenses.

100%........and a permanent ban on re-entry........it is the only way to deal with this and many other problems.....fines and repossessions mean nothing to arrogant wealthy farangs (I am a Brit)........sending them packing sends a powerful signal to their brethren

Means one short time less for the cf's and a Karaoke visit for the Bibs

Immigration detention centre + asap deportation + mark passports NO ENTRY FOR UMPTEEN YEARS.

Idiots nearly killed me a few times when I first emigrated here, driving like complete brain-dead morons. Eastern Europeans not much better.

I bet there was 2 or 3 rental shops the police did not go after. ????

Will this have any bearing on the new good relations Thailand now has with Saudi?

cut  their  heads  off  ......make  them  feel  at  home

I have heard that Arabs can lose a hand for stealing, and lose their heads for serious crimes,

so I am assuming that they are blowing off steam in Thailand. I agree that they should be sent back to their countries

and banned from Thailand for 5 years or so to let them know they cannot ignore laws.

It's Bonanza time for Pattaya Plod.  Lots of 'fines' for bikers; lots of punitive 'measures' against (some) renters. We'll see even less of the invisible force for a few weeks as they get to spend their loot.

Close the shop... end of problem.

Other shops would take more notice.

Deport bike offenders.

Stop sodding around with petty fines that do nothing.

I must admit I have been surprised by so many posts claiming these Kuwaiti brats somehow carry a lot of clout. Rather a small unimportant country.... Having worked there I can understand why the kids let their hair down when they get here,

The quality tourists are flocking back to Thailand
