The number of unemployed people in Thailand has dropped to 550,000 during the 2nd quarter from 607,000 during the 1st quarter of 2022, thanks to economic recovery, the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) said.

“The unemployment situation of people who have worked before and people who never worked before have both decreased while the number of people who have been unemployed for more than a year also decreased…reflecting that the economy is recovering,” said Danucha Pichayanan, the secretary-general of NESDC.

He said Thailand’s workforce reached 39 million in the 2nd quarter of 2022, up 3.1% when compared to the same period last year due to a growth in non-agricultural employment.

I wonder where the government gets its data. They provide really quite detailed figures about the movement of labour, out of agriculture for instance, figures relating to a whole variety of sectors, retail, hotel, exports, manufacturing etc etc. There's so much casual and temporary work though. People picking up odd jobs here and there. Are any of their data reliable?

When they don't pay the unemployed how would they know?

So 57,000 new workers hiding in Thaiwatsadu basements and/or blowing whistles on Makro carparks?
