Could someone advise please.

I am planing a trip to Chiang Khong. I have a Non O Multi visa and am coming up to 90 days in Thailand.

Is it a requirement to stay one night in Lao or can I simply turn round and come back into Thailand.

Any information appreciated thanks.

for me usa in vientanne   i have to schedule an appt online  arrive that day hand in docs    come back the next day to pick up

The OP only needs a border bounce not a visa.

A bounce is to get a new 90 days of stay using just the immigration desks, a visa is going to a consulate etc, to get a visa, perhaps an overnight thing.

Folk exit Thailand at places such at land border Laos to either obtain a visa (eg tourist visa).

OR

 exit and reenter at the border with either ME non O (as is the case with OP) as an example or visa exempt entry. 

So the first is a Visa Run.

and second a Border Bounce.

At Nong Khai/Vientiane (July 17) I turned back about 2 hours later (finally studying silly prices at some fancy duty free shop ).
