It won’t happen.

If you think it will, then you know little about the Thai mentality.

The mask has become their amulet.

I'm hopeful and optimistic that it will. It's already very gradually reducing in the main centers, but yes still almost universal.

Outside of the main centers, a lot less masking, especially down in the south / islands.

Next month should signal further steps from  the health authorities towards 'endemic', along with that, time heals.

  • Covid is old news. I was in the UK last week for a holiday and there were no masks, no talk of Covid, no concerns of catching it, life back to normal.   Coming back to Thailand and having to

  • Those of us who've been saying not to worry from the start and were told that we were crazy conspiracy theorists who should shut up and get vaccinated still haven't received our apologies. I'm talking

Yes, it is ridiculous how entrenched the mask is part of their being this far into 2022, from leaving the condo in the morning to returning home at night, it probably comes off for just a brief few minutes a day for eating.

Thai's are very easily influenced so I think the first thing that needs to go is the domestic news (a stretch to call it news), silly quiz shows, and reality/singing competitions that are masked and/or face visored. Then the ministers.

Certainly entrenched in your obsessed mind.

And more of the same from Johns Hopkins.... U.S. and U.K. toward the top of the world list of cumulative per capita COVID deaths among the most affected countries:

Mortality in the most affected countries

"For the twenty countries currently most affected by COVID-19 worldwide, the bars in the chart below show the number of deaths either per 100 confirmed cases (observed case-fatality ratio) or per 100,000 population. [cited in chart below"

One might argue, based on the outcomes above, that at least some segments of the U.S. and U.K. populations could have benefited from a bit more well-placed fear.

Probably the UK population of over 65-year olds that is millions of people larger than the equivalent age groups in Thailand despite the two countries' almost identical population sizes.

Nevertheless using this as an argument for the mask use in the current situation in late 2022 is not valid anymore. Thailand and its mass mask usage is every day a more rare exception worldwide. There is no reason for it anymore.

How refreshing and beneficial for one's mental health it has been to stay and travel in Europe this summer and being able to see people's faces...
