webfact
Natthaphon Sangpolsit BANGKOK (NNT) - Authorities have conducted an investigation into a chemical leak incident at a factory in Nakhon Pathom province to determine its impact on the environment. The Pollution Control Department (PCD) said no dangerous contaminants were detected in the air or soil around the incident site. The Pollution Control Department (PCD) has been inspecting areas around an Indorama Polyester Industries factory in Nakhon Pathom that suffered a chemical leak last week. The leaked chemicals were later identified as diphenyl oxide and biphenyl. In the aftermath, inspections by PCD officials found no trace of these chemicals in the air or soil within a 20-kilometer radius of the factory. More inspections will be performed to gauge the level of chemicals in water and sewer lines. PCD Director General Athapol Charoenshunsa said the leaked chemicals were in volumes so small that they are unlikely to have a significant environmental impact, adding that the chemicals themselves do not cause severe health complications like cancer.
