Football - The Netherlands qualified for the Nations League finals as Virgil van Dijk's header secured a 1-0 victory over Belgium at the Johan Cruyff Arena, but Wales  were relegated from the top tier after they were beaten 1-0 at home by Poland. There were also wins for Denmark who beat France 2-0, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Luxembourg and the Faroe Islands who beat Turkey 2-1.

 

Tennis - Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova registered a 7-6 6-0 victory against top seed Jelena Ostapenko, who suffered a foot injury during the match, in the final of the Korea Open yesterday to clinch her third WTA title. It was the second title of the season for the 27-year-old Alexandrova, who is ranked 24th in the world and was seeded second in the WTA 250 event in Seoul.

 

Athletics -  Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge shattered his own marathon world record yesterday winning the Berlin race with a time of 2:01.09 to shave half a minute off his previous world best set in the German capital four years ago. The 37-year-old, who has now won 15 of his 17 career marathons, including two Olympic triumphs and 10 major titles cementing his status as the greatest ever marathon runner.
