Procedure for Obtaining Visa Exempt

Recommended Posts

I have a friend from the UK who will come to Thailand shortly.  He is coming for 16 days, so I understand he will not require a visa as such.  However, I further understand that he will have to obtain a stamp in his passport which I believe is known as Visa Exempt.

I would appreciate, subject to the above being correct, to know the procedure he has to follow when he arrives at Suvarnabhumi Airport.  Is there a special place to go to get the stamp, or will the Immigration Officer do it?

I also understand that he will have to show evidence of cash to the value of a minimum of 20,000 THB and confirmation of hotel bookings, plus a vaccination certificate for Covid -19 and a return air ticket.

He does nothing special on arrival.

Just que as normal.

The io will notice UK passport and absence of visa or reentry permit and then stamp him in for 45 days (as from Oct 1)

He will not require the items you mention to show to the io.

At departure the airline may wish to see his onward (return) flight.

Since he has this then zero issues.

When entering visa exempt a person goes to the normal arrival immigration desks.

Immigration seldom ask for proof of accommodations or the 20k baht in cash.

The airline will be the most likely to want to see a ticket out of the country within 30 days.

Proof of vaccinations or a covid test will not be required after October 1st.
