The number of tourists visiting Siem province has plummeted in September due to the ongoing rain that has caused flash floods in eight districts even though the major attractions in the area remain unaffected by elevated levels of water. There has been a 10% drop in tourist numbers in the province compared to August.

Siem Reap Provincial Department of Tourism deputy director Soeung Sitha noted that visitor numbers have dropped even though there are no floods at any of the temples in the area. “Tourist can still visit temples when it is raining lightly and protect themselves by wearing a raincoat or using an umbrella, but if the weather worsens, they can stay in the hotel,” Sitha said.

The deputy director added that tourists can still visit Siem Reap province this month as there are no flash floods at any of the major tourist attractions, however, they should be careful of catching the flu due to the weather.
