BANGKOK, Sept 28 (TNA) – Like authorities in other provinces, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has installed pumps in flood-prone areas and prepared 2.5 million sandbags to cope with the imminent impacts of Storm Noru.

 

Deputy Bangkok governor Wisanu Subsompon said Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt put all BMA officials on standby to cope with the incoming storm.

 

The City Hall had already discharged water from local canals and sought more pumps from the Royal Irrigation Department and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for installation in flood-prone districts including Prawet and Lat Krabang, Mr Wisanu said.

How do they discharge water from canals when the canals (klongs) discharge into the Chaoprao River, which means a lot (if not all) of the klongs are tidal, and rise and fall according to the tides in the Gulf of Thailand.
