The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) is planning to add more popular sports to the current trend in 2023 to draw public attention and attract more tourists, both Thai and foreigners.

Chaiyaphak Siriwat, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), told the Associated Press after the OCA meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on October 4th that trending sports like volleyball and badminton would be featured in Thailand-hosted AIMAG next year to attract Thai audiences as well as international tourists who would purchase tickets to watch the sports competition.

The 6th AIMAG was due to take place from March 10-19, 2022, in Bangkok and Chonburi province but has been postponed to November 17-26, 2023, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

I'd have thought that badminton (which I love watching) was hardly just emerging as a popular trend. The modern game developed in the mid-19th century.

In 2021 it is estimated that nearly 400,000 participated in badminton in England. This was well down because of Co-Vid from nearly 950,000 in 2016.

YET British media almost completely ignores it.
