Maximum time to stay in Thailand on a tourist Visa

Recommended Posts

Due to changes in my circumstances, I will probably have to leave Thailand.

Could you please explain how long a person can stay in Thailand on a tourist Visa and how often can a person come back?

What are red flags when it comes to returning?

Constructive comments are greatly appreciated.

So you are currently in Thailand.

Any advice on options depends to some extent on your history of staying in Thailand and type of visas etc in the past.

Assume that you are under 50 and no Thai family.

I'm on Non-immigrant O extension. Married to a Thai woman. I have had 8 extensions with a break inbetween.

Extension expires in November

A Tourist Visa permits a stay of 60 days on entry, which can be extended for a further 30 days.

Arriving by air, there is no written order as to how many times you can enter, it's purely at the discretion of the IO.

So I arrive and they can simply turn me away without a reason?

Get a METV, get up to 9 months. Basically 90 days each time by doing 30 day extensions after the 60 day entries, exiting the country every 90 days and coming back in.

According to requirements the one must show the equivalent of 7000 USD in a bank account for the preceding 6 months.

Can this be a Thai bank?

I have been living in Thailand for the last 4 years and altogether spent almost a decade here. I have nothing anywhere else.

Which Embassies are usually happy to issue this type of visa around Thailand?

Sir, could you elaborate on why my post made you laugh?

Not sure if I said something funny. Am I missing something.

Just tried to ask a simple question and tried to get some answers. Please understand that people may have situations that aren't usual.  Your reply will be appreciated.

Why would I not laugh.

Outline the way you have been living in Thailand for 10 years.

Other kankers can duplicate your formulae

Sorry but just toooo funny.

What is funny?

I have never had this visa as I have been here on non-immigrant O extension.

Instead of making fun of people, why not help? Weird

To elaborate on this, it's not possible to apply for a METV at just any Thai embassy. You need to be a resident where you apply, so this would usually have to be the Thai embassy in the applicant's home country.

Single entry tourist visas, on the other hand, can be obtained in nearby countries.

Great, thank you for your kind help. Appreciated

If you have an actual tourist visa from an embassy/consulate, legally, they are only supposed to deny you entry for very specific reasons outlined in Section 12 of the Immigration Act. At almost all land crossings, as well as some airports, Immigration will never deny you entry (with a visa) without a legal reason. Very rarely, some airports, including the two Bangkok airports, have been known to do so.

If you are entering visa exempt, the situation is different. At land crossings, no problem entering twice per calendar year. At airports, Immigration has discretion, dependin on whether they believe you are a genuine tourist.

Ok, thanks.

This has cleared things up.

Have you considered obtaining the Non Imm O ME Visa from Savannahket or HCMC?
That would allow you to stay, albeit with border runs every 90 days.

From other threads of OP can assume stay based on marriage no longer an option.

As for ME Non O marriage the 90 days that can extended by 60 days to visit wife.

On an aside I would suggest anyone planning on obtaining that ME visa at HCMC to check latest reports re availability.

It does appears on website.

Had a pm of only non O single currently available.

Cannot confirm.

How about Savannakhet or Cambodia? Would Non-O ME be available?

ME non O marriage available at Savannakhet but not at Vientiane.

One advantage with the ME Non O is it does not have the financial requirements required to extention to non O .

Also no home visit etc.

You can obtain the Non Imm O ME Visa with just a copy of your wife's (or ex) TB and ID card, from Savannahket, if you get my drift.

If an ex, this would probably work, but would be a fraudulent application, and likely get you blacklisted from Thailand if discovered.

Absolutely, but nobody checks, not the Embassy/Consulate, ECO at borders points, and you never visit Thai Immigration.
I know of 3 that stay this way, 1 for over 10 years, but if caught, deportation and blacklisted.
