Thailand's tourism chief says the coronavirus pandemic there is over. The country fully reopened to foreign visitors this month. The Southeast Asian nation especially wants to boost arrivals from India.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn told NHK that he would go to New Delhi to organize events aimed at bringing more Indian travelers to Thailand. He said Indian tourists are now one of the largest inbound groups, and he hopes a million of them will visit Thailand this year.

Chinese tourists used to account for more than one in four arrivals. But they haven't yet returned while Beijing continues its zero-COVID restrictions. The governor expects to see them back in Thailand during the Lunar New Year holidays starting from late January.

For now, he is eyeing another demographic with similar travel habits: young Japanese women into wellbeing, golf, and diving.

Bar stool piffle.   I should state upfront that I have lived, worked, and traveled extensively in India.  I do not like Indian people and chose to avoid them if possible.   However

Kind of strange. I have lived in India. Except for weddings and such occasions where security is assured Indians won't flaunt gold jewelry. Certainly not on city streets. And yet in Thailand ...

This guy should be sacked for being completely out of touch with the Chinese communist party and reality. For them to come early next year they would have to abandon their absolutely lunatic zero covid policy and forced lock ups, and to do that would mean admitting they were wrong all along and the rest of the world right  - never going to happen. Going to be very few Chinese I expect for 5-10 years if they carry on

Well no shortage of them in Pattaya ATM, building Indian eateries every other shop front on 2nd Rd.... they have perhaps picked up some competitive leases in that soi 7/8 area which was looking ready for a demolition.

I still do not see how all the eateries that there will be in Pattaya will be supported...... just the Indian and British tourists using them. Thais in my experience don't go for it.

I'm American and love them. Thais don't seem very adventurous in food realms... they don't seem to like Mexican either.... Not sure if I'd cound McD's & KFC as food....

I should state upfront that I have lived, worked, and traveled extensively in India.  I do not like Indian people and chose to avoid them if possible.

However, I have seen first hand large groups of the young Indians that are now visiting Thailand.  They are not sikhs, but rather young up and coming professionals who are working in tech and other progressive industries.  They are the young entrants to India's growing middle class.  They are not just single men, there are also couples travelling as well.  The are clean, tidy, speak excellent English and are very well and fashionably dressed.

Most of them would have income far surpassing that of the fat stinking singha tank top wearing slobs that rely on the age old 1 drink 3 straws mantra to prop up their own delusions of self worth.

The headline in the post is about Indian tourists, but the OP does mention Chinese tourists!

You can say that again .... my occasional Thai lady refuses to go to an indian restaurant ... only once , it was my birthday , she actually suggested we go ... the look on her face as she struggled to pretend she liked it.... eventually I sent for a pizza across the road ... with the permission of the restaurant owner ...

India, China, Israel and Russia. Which country produces the worst tourist?

now this is a demographic I would love to see more of.

The japanese girls are well known for their "what happens in vegas, stays in vegas" attitude when it comes to having a holiday fling.
