This kind of thing  is the reason I remain pro-dictator. He also legalized abortion, remember. 

 

I've seen far less corruption under the Prayut rule. I think he's been great for Thailand. I don't want to go back to the anarchy offered before the General took over.

All I'll say is the 30 baht universal healthcare scheme and the rice pledging scheme. Both were designed and implemented by Phui Thai (or more accurately previous incarnations) and both were designed to create popular support and both were good policies (free healthcare and free money)  which is why the public liked them. 

 

Is Thai politics moving to the insane position where only policies disliked by the public can form the basis of the official election manifesto? 

 

 

A political party's political platform forms its policies that guide its legislative priorities. To maintain its law-making existence in the context of public elections, it is essential that it gain and maintain as large as possible an electoral majority. 

All BP is doing, as has PTP and the Democrat Party historically, is to attract and maintain the electoral majority with proposed legislation aligned with its publicized policies. 

The Opposition coalition wants to take BP's party policies out of its legislation which ironically might be considered the Opposition coalitions' political policy and legislation objectives to reverse the current law. Is this just a gracious objective with no political expectation or a political means ultimately to attract the electorate?

Am I reading this correctly. The opposition guy is complaining that legalising cannabis is political because its what most people want so it gets more votes.

In reality that’s how all democracies work. They are ruled by wealth not the people. With the help of the corporate media giants free and fair elections, and debates are nothing more than theater. Democracy’s work best when the winners are know before the voting begins

Interesting is that no one on this thread has said that legalising some drugs, while the country is in the midst of an abominable drug problem, is just bizarre.

There was bound to be a big backlash against any drug after the massacre at the pre school. Although it was because of long term yabba addiction, which makes people very unstable and often violent. Cannabis has not been shown to make people violent like yabba does. Cannabis laws being thrown out will be the likely result. There will also be a lot of very disgruntled farmers who have made it their cash crop in the last 6 months.

I don't see this as a story about drugs. It is just another tactic to get rid of parties that stand a chance of being elected with sufficient votes to form a government. It has happened in the past.
