Isuzu Adventure Master (Thairung) - 4x4 - is it any good?

I am thinking to buy this car, to use for a bit of offroad camping.

Are they reliable? Any good offroad?  Cheap to repair?

 

I was looking to buy a 2004 model for about 200k

I would say any of the Isuzu's range are serviceable for 50 years or more in Thailand. 

Have it checked over before buying if you cannot do it yourself.

The Adventure Master is a DMAX with a body modified by Thairung. 

 

The pluses: very reliable engine and transmission.  Fairly cheap compared to similar vehicles.

 

The minuses:  Potential body rust - look at the body very carefully and try to see if it has been repainted.  Leaks, rattles and shakes from poorly fitted rear doors and windows.

It's on the D-max / Colorado base. The reliability should be fine - Is some of the body fibreglass?

I've found over the years that most older Isuzus I've driven end to be a bit "boat-like" in handling and have a rather rattly engine - but this is not a reliability problem.

Of gentle off-roading/camping it should be ideal.

If you want to be a bit more adventurous be aware it has a long wheel-base like a pickup truck so you might consider lifting the vehicle about 3 to 5 inches.

The 2 main factors off-road are ground clearance and tires - you need a larger AT tire with a bit more tread (and a bit more noise) than solely for road use.
