Video: Thai beauty sends impassioned anti-war message to 'murdering' Putin - shames Thai govt

Daily News Thai Caption: Stop the war

All Thai media picked up on Eng Fah Waraha's speech to judges in the last ten at the Miss Grand International beauty pageant.

Her anti-war message and direct attack on Vladimir Putin as a murderer is quite different to the Thai government's appeasement stance.

Eng Fah is the reigning Miss Grand Thailand winner.

Eng Fah took the microphone confidently and in English, reported Daily News.

The one minute+ video can be viewed on YouTube.

Beginning her address with "Dear President Putin" she was given cheers from the audience after saying "You DO kill innocent people" directed at the Russian leader.

"Why (do) you think like that? Why (do) you do like that?' she pressed in English with a charming Thai lilt.

She said that everyone in the world deserves peace before saying to more audience appreciation:

"Please stop the war. Please stop the violence" before asking the whipped up audience if they agreed with her.

It was clear they did.

Her message ended with further pleas to make love not war.

The beauty queen's statement can be seen in stark contrast to Thailand's ruling government who has sat on the fence over Ukraine amid criticism that angering Putin is not economically sensible.

  • Good for her. By speaking her mind like this she has proven that she has more courage than all of the Thai government put together.

  • Irregardless of how one views the topic, she has courage.  She could have got a crowd response on any number of topics, she didn't do this just for 'likes'.    I care more about her speaking

  • I agree, good for her and lets hope more spineless Thais support Ukraine and speak out against the little tyrant Pootin.

I care more about her speaking out,  which in my opinion Thais need to do a bit more. She knew before she spoke that she is going to upset some important people.  She did it anyhow.

Great job, young lady hope there are no consequences for you.

The Thai gov't has a diplomatic tightrope to walk. So, too much 'in your face' condemnation' of a trading partner country has no diplomatic nor practical benefit. But, to allow one of your citizens to morally condemn Russia, is refreshing, to include not preventing her statement from being viewed on media -- as I would imagine that had she been Chinese, her statement would have been cut off right after being uttered. Hey, Thailand isn't a perfect democracy, but, with certain cultural limitations, it does have free speech. So, Russia, maybe this is the beginning of what the Thai people think of your war crimes.

...

Nice to see and hear not just a beautiful person, but a smart, thoughtful one.

Every person has a right to free speech, and all the better if it's on an international social media platform.  Whether it would make the Thai government change their stance on Russia's determination to destroy Ukraine, including every man, woman and child if need be, I doubt they will ever take their heads outside their pants.

As for Putin and his war mongering mates, they need to be exterminated once and for all.

Not good to make Thailand “lose face”.

Wonder if 3 weeks in the “attitude-adjust” camp will be enough?

Should the Thai government tell Putin that he is a murderer?

And should they do the same with other countries and their leaders?

Should they tell China what to do and don't do?

Maybe tell the USA not to invade so many countries?

And don't forget to tell the leaders in Saudi Arabia what bad people they are.

Any other countries? Sure. Tell them all about their mistakes.

And then?

What about if these countries react to that?

No more business with Thailand? Or maybe business with bad conditions?

No more tourists and no more money from people from those countries?

And then? I guess then the same people will criticize the Thai government again for high prices, high unemployment, no tourists, etc.

The world is not black and white. There are not only good or only bad countries and leaders. The world is complicated. Sometimes it's good to think again about consequences - before criticizing others.

I think the defamation laws here are more than just "certain cultural limitations".

Maybe better for her to keep her opinion to herself. How much does she really know? If it is just what is in the news then she should think again until she can find out what is and what isnt true.

Looks like a lot of warhawks here today. Maybe Thailand should end it's neutrality, spend a few billion more to buy more weapons, a few more submarines and missiles to help Ukraine out. Because that's what friendly countries are doing.

Perhaps raise taxes on foreigners to be able to buy weapons to give away and show solidarity. I give up.

Thailand is in need of economic growth more than big talk.

Well said. Denounce war and mediate a resolution to the issues.

There's nothing positive that would come out of Thailand supporting Ukraine, infact it would be economic suicide.

Well done. One sword thrust, two kills.

Will be interesting if she suffers any retribution from the regime.

Note to Prayuth and his goombahs. This is what courage and morality looks like! Such an extreme opposite from the vacuous level of ethics you guys demonstrate.

Maybe she's not the one that needs to read and educate herself of the truth. Seems it might benefit you as well

Did she mention the over 14 thousand Russian speaking Ukrainians killed at the hands of their own government since 2014. Can she enlighten me on the minsk accord or the orange Revolution? Of course not. Not to mention those poor souls burnt alive in Odessa. Maybe the Nazi Ukrainian military might be a clue.

no need to as that has no barring on the current situation, nor are you quoting accurate facts

Really. How about posting credible links to information that shows how much Russia contributes to the Thai economy, while I take a look at how much American sanctions would cost Thailand.

AFAIK most of the Russians in Thailand are wanting to stay out of Russia, so there is little risk of offending them.

The 6 million Ukrainians killed by famine on Stalin's orders in 1931-1932 might be informing her views, or the current targeting of civilians by Putin, because he is losing badly on a battlefield he is too much of a coward to visit. Staged photo ops with a sniper rifle is as good as it gets, although he does prefer poison.

Or perhaps it's the Budapest agreement, where Putin guaranteed Ukraine's sovereignty in return for Ukraine giving up its nuclear arsenal.

Russian troll spreading lies, on ignore forthwith.

Well perhaps entertainment celebrities wouldn't feel the need to voice such opinions if the politicians were more vocal on the subject.

  • Popular Post

OK, so she reflected her opinion and then?

It has been like that ever since humans exist.

She also could have said something about N- Korea, China, Belarus, Syria, Yemen, Africa,

Myanmar and so on. Fact is all countries are run by just dictators.

There is no democracy or communism, just dictators and global capitalism.

If a dictator leaves another one rises. That is our history and our future.

Well she certainly appears to have a far greater grasp of reality than you do.

Celebrities can say a lot. Putin will likely never hear what she said and even if he would hear it, he probably couldn't care less.

But if some official Thai politician or government spokesperson would say something bad about Putin or Russia then he might notice and he might decide to show Thailand that there are consequences.

IMHO that doesn't mean nobody should ever criticize others. But politicians and especially leaders of countries should think it through and don't just say something because they feel that should be said.
