The screen does not allow apps such as google maps (vision) to be used when drive is engaged. Is there away to overcome this?

 

I know its a safety feature but the screen is pretty well useless apart from playing music from phone in its present form.

 

If you use google maps on your phone and plug phone usb cable into socket maps are displayed on screen.

You should have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay on your phone. And use a proper USB data cable.

This is important.

The Android Auto in my new 22 4 Runner wouldn't work, I was on the verge of buying a new phone and I went on a tech site and was recommended to use the original USB cord from my samsung phone. That's long gone so I bought a high end cable and then everything worked. If you use a cheap gas station cord it will charge the phone but won't work for the Android Auto.
