The Thai Energy Ministry is eyeing to forcefully mandate an electricity-saving campaign for households and businesses such as shopping malls, gas stations, or nightlife venues, to battle the rising prices of liquefied natural gas (LNG) used in national power generation.

The LNG prices may keep rising in the winter due to the Russo-Ukrainian war, the baht’s depreciation, and higher demand for energy in Europe, said Kulit Sombatsir, permanent secretary of the Energy Ministry.

If the LNG prices climb to $50 per metric million British thermal unit (MMBTU) for consecutively more than two weeks, the electricity-saving campaign, which is usually adopted voluntarily by people, will be made mandatory, Kulit said.

Why not remove every second light bulb and switch off every second a/c unit in government buildings. Then switch off all TV's in said buildings. Save loads there.

  • Indeed! And how many terawatts of electricity is consumed by the giant TVs spewing ads all over BKK like Blade Runner BKK.

Sounds sensible to me - I see many bars that are 75% staff after about midnight and two fans running for each person.

We need to start the 'Shut down Pattaya' movement now! That would save a fortune.

Why not close down all the bars permanently.  In doing so would save one hell of a lot of electricity.

Just my thoughts.

Quite a few bars in the UK have switched their lights off and are using candles for light

I think Pattaya doesn't need help. Looks like it's shutting down or falling down on its own.

OK so lets say we have a closing of all venues at 11pm - how many individuals  are going home and turning on their aircon, this is just more stupid that is expected in Thailand,

Is there anyone running things in this country that acually has a brain or is slightly educated ?

lets have a vote on that question

1 - for yes

2 - for no

mine is a solid 2

Better still why not simply close all industry. We can use candles we will have power to burn.

Agreed, this mad charge to zero emissions and green policies is like the Charge of The light brigade bravely charging the cannons and then half way across realising they forgot their horses !

I think our village has already implemented this policy a long time ago. The electric goes off on average three times a day, more when it rains.........:whistling:

I remember Thaksin decided to close all petrol stations through the night. Said it would save lots of electricity. He forgot that the trucks carry the food through the night! Everywhere ended up without any food deliveries. The decision was soon reversed.

Meanwhile next door in the tourism ministry policies are ready to extend the opening hours of entertainment venues.

  • Popular Post

Early closing no need, can just drink warm beer and grope your companion in the dark of night. Higher risk for surprise in the room later though...

Lets get this right closing the bars earlier will save electric. So all the patrons that leave the bars and go back to their rooms earlier will not put the AC on. Which uses more power a club with say 200 customers or 200 rooms with the air con running full blast.

Pattaya has been declared dead many times, and it has reinvented itself every time. So don't worry.

Way to screw up an already screwed up economy guys. Get a clue! Haven't the businesses been hurt enough?
