Golf - English pair Matthew Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton share the lead on seven under par after the opening day of the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Hatton had held the overall lead before hitting a bogey on the final hole to card a 65 at Jumeriah Golf Estates. Sweden's Alexander Noren is one shot behind the leaders after carding a 66.

Football - Senegal forward Sadio Mane has undergone surgery on a knee injury he sustained playing for Bayern Munich and will miss the World Cup.

Mane was forced off during Bayerns Bundesliga win over Werder Bremen on 8 November. There were some pre- World Cup friendlies played last night and the highlights included Spain beating Jordan 3-1 and Canada winning 2-1 against Japan.
