The Thai cabinet approved, in principle, a draft bill today (Tuesday), which seeks to hold businesses accountable for goods sold to consumers which are found to be defective within two years of delivery.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Traisoranakul said that the draft bill is intended to protect the consumers from being exploited by businesses selling defective goods, knowingly or unknowingly, and refusing to take responsibility.

In case the defects are found within a year of delivery of the goods, it is assumed that they were defective from the date of the delivery, she said.

Consumer protection ? That surely is a novelty for Thailand .

I have at least five batteries for electric tools that stopped working within a few weeks or month .

But , in Thailand , if you buy cheap , yo only buy for the rubbish bin .

what about counterfeit junk mostly from China sold from many online retail outlets

but asside from that - consumer protection has been a thing in the west for decades, when you buy something new ( TV for example) there is an expectation it will last longer than 2 years

'to protect consumers from defective goods endorsed by cabinet' - why are defective goods being endorsed by the cabinet?

In the case of many electrical appliances purchased in Thailand the shop will give you 7 days guarantee, then it's up to you to deal with the manufacturer.. Usually in China?
