Football - Former England striker David Johnson, the first man to score for both Liverpool and Everton in the Merseyside derby, has died aged 71. Johnson, who scored six goals in eight appearances for England, had been suffering from throat cancer.

 

The German football federation is investigating whether it is legal for Fifa to threaten players with sanction for wearing the OneLove armband at the World Cup in Qatar.The captains of seven European nations had planned to wear the armband to promote diversity and inclusion.But the plans were dropped following Fifa's threat of players being booked.

 

Pep Guardiola, manager of EPL side Manchester City  has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2025.


Guardiola, 51, has won 11 trophies, including four Premier League titles, during six years at the Etihad Stadium.

 

In last night's matches in the Qatar World Cup 2022 in Group E Japan caused another upset in this year's competition by beating Germany 2-1, Spain thrashed Costa Rica 7-0. In Group F Belgium defeated Canada 1-0 and Morocco and Croatia drew 0-0.
