Bangkok Governor Chartchart Sittipunt has plans to collect provincial taxes on gasoline, tobacco, and hotel industry, a move that would likely raise the prices for the already high gasoline that is retailing and has been blamed for the surging inflation.

“There is no final decision made on this issue yet,” Chadchart told Thai Enquirer although admitting that the BMA was in need to look for more sources of funding as its funding needs are more than the 79.71 billion Baht it is allocated annually.

The budget for 2023 is slated to be used mostly for the easing of the biggest problems in the city – flooding and traffic congestion.

Instead of more tax collecting check you personal who for sure rort the system by stealing, thieving and taking bribes in a hundreds of millions...

... He probably did, incl his own share of that, and concluded that with surging prices they need to increase either their kickback percentage or the total spending to keep their income aligned with inflation. Seems they going for the latter...

Taxes are theft.

Governments don't need more money. They have no profit incentive and noone to hold them accountable for how they spend/waste public funds.

If they can't manage with 80 billion thb a year they need to work harder and smarter with the existing funds.

Miss-appropriation of funds by the government, they don't need submarines or F-35's..

Use the money to finance infrastructure.
