Former  President Donald Trump attends a rally to support Republican candidates ahead of midterm elections, in Dayton, Ohio, November 7, 2022.

By Jamie Gangel and Katelyn Polantz, CNN

CNN — The House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, is considering asking the Justice Department to pursue multiple charges against former President Donald Trump, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The charges being considered include obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy to defraud the federal government. The recommendations match allegations the select committee made against Trump and his elections attorney John Eastman in a previous court proceeding seeking Eastman’s emails.

  • LOL.  The jokes on you.  They don't prosecute, they REFER it to the Justice Department, which has all the time in the world to investigate further, charge him and prosecute him.  No tick tock here.

  • You're not fooling anybody. What a lame attempt to cover your previous gaffe.

  • CNN are reporting on cable TV that the committee will add a third charge to their recommendation - Insurrection.

LOL.

Given they have little time left before they vanish to obscurity I guess they thought they had better come up with something before the GOP ends the committee.

Tick tock, tick tok.

I'm aware of that, so nothing on me.

The tick tock was in relation to their time in the limelight ending very soon, not about the justice department.

Judge unseals new details of contacts among Rep. Perry, Trump-connected attorneys

A federal judge revealed Friday that earlier this year she granted Justice Department investigators access to emails between three Trump-connected attorneys and Rep. Scott Perry as part of the federal investigation into election subversion efforts by the former president and others.

This is about the 6th January 2020, almost 3 years ago.

Why wasn't he prosecuted and jailed a long time ago?

Are you aware just how hard Trump has fought to delay the production of evidence and prevent his associates from testifying?

I’m sure if I can wait patiently, you can too.

Justice is coming.

LOL. IMO they spun it out as long as possible to have their time in the limelight, and hoped it would help in the election.

IMO it's been entirely political theatre from the get go.

Yeah, treason is political - kind of.

CNN?  Do they still broadcast?  What happened to Reliable Sources?  Cuomo gone, Don Lemon moved to daytime.  They existed for Trump and now he’s gone.  Seems like a fair trade:  fading Trump—fading CNN.

According to me it was the 6th of January 2021, so "only" 2 years ago!

Look, I like Trump, he's at least a bit of fresh air in politics. If he has done something wrong then do it.

But for heavens sake at least make it look even and start prosecuting the corrupt FBI and start looking at Hunter and Bidens corruption.

The left are constantly riling up the right by being uneven - some think that deliberate - I'm one of them

In any case it takes too long. Anybody "normal" would already sit in pre-trial custody given the amount, meaningfulness and available evidence.

The most annoying thing here is as well the open demonstration to the world how a person of influence and wealth can severely bend the American system of justice to his own benefit. It would not even surprize me if nothing happened to the man.

Funny. After halving watched the hearings, I think they well documented, “coming up with something”.

It’s some kind of far right fantasy to twist things around and try to make mundane stuff conspiratorial. Cuomo sacked because of his sexual misconduct. Soon after Jeff Zucker resigned too. Fox and CBS to have similar sackings and resignations due to sexual misconducts. CNN has to reorganize and Don Lemon has to move to daytime as he was an established face. Trump will fade away but CNN will still be around. No one really give a hoot to the NFT salesman.

I have not researched it. How long did it take the Feds to get Capone? New Turk, President here. Steady as she goes the Captain says.

Capone was a lot smarter in many ways.

Imagine a whole stadium of people chanting “lock him up, lock him up”! Or better yet “lock them up, lock them up!” since Trump was by far not the only one engaging in criminal and/or seditious activities around January 6.

Perhaps a different take on the accusation that treatment of, “The Donald” is uneven. After dozens of separate court cases trying to claim an unfair election (certainly the result was uneven … his multiple  lies were rejected), and a more than substantial abuse of the courts to try legal maneuvers to stop investigation of wrongdoing, I would say he has been treated more than even … under the law. This particular subject is Donald Trump, not the FBI or any other subject. If there are others doing wrong … well, we should all know the basics … Prosecutor brings charges before a Grand Jury of independent citizens. If they decide there is sufficient evidence, they hand down an indictment against the accused ordering a trial. Then a separate citizen Trial Jury hears both the evidence against the individual and the accused, represented by their Defense attorney (s). Gives the argument for the evidence being insufficient or wrong. All things considered … like the decision by the voters, a decision will be made. Yep, I am betting that “The Donald” and his ilk will face a judgement on his words, actions, policies. Wait, what … several have already been sentenced.

Not sure about that already having the effects of syphilis. Both have (had) their attorneys.

If this Jack Smith guy is as sh!t hot as they say he is then there are more-than-likely a whole bunch of Senators, Governor Generals of State's, Governors, House or Rep's members, lawyers, media personalities, Ginny "Im Crazy as a Loon' Thomas, perhaps her husband(?), members of the Secret Service, White House Staffers right up to and including Meadows, business people (dark money, and open funders) scared witless.

Personally I hope they get every last mothers son of them and lock them up in Federal prisons for decades each. Beginning with the Traitor in Chief Trump.

Thanks for saying you like Trump at the start.

No need to read after that.

LOL. If actual treason was involved I'm sure a certain person would have been charged with it already. If they can't find treason to pin on him after nearly 2 years it is likely to not exist. It's not like they haven't been trying to find something that will stick in an actual court of law.

Anything can be made political if desired .

Indeed "nothing" may happen to the man because he didn't do anything that rises to the level of a actual crime.

They've had almost 2 years to find something to pin on him, and the best they can do is refer something to the DOJ in the final days of the committee's existence. If he was on record as saying "invade the Capitol building and hang them all" that'd be a crime, but he didn't say anything like that.

I thought you liked political theater.  You certainly seem to enjoy it when DeSantis is the performer.
