Tesla stock marks lowest close in years as investors worry about Musk’s focus

Experts blame Elon Musk’s management style at Twitter for the electric carmaker’s financial problems

Tesla shares fell on Tuesday to their lowest in more than two years, marking the company’s worst day in eight months, as Elon Musk’s electric carmaker confronts a rocky financial period.

The company’s stock has lost more than half its value since the start of October. Investors worry that Twitter is taking much of Musk’s time, now that he is the social network’s owner and CEO.

  • People forget that Tesla is just a financial vehicle for Musk - he bought into the company for $6.5m so he has made tremendous returns on this - and the exorbitant stock price has allowed him to spend

  • His cars maybe self-driving, but his companies are not.

  • Actually it looks like NASDAQ has significantly outperformed TSLA this year:

The route on Tesla stocks continues.  I think most of the pundits believe it has been overvalued for a long time.

Tesla was no doubt a leader in the EV market and has had many innovations, but it has a small selection of vehicles, and it faces stiff competition from the mainstream manufactures.  The Tesla brand is tightly intertwined with brand Musk.  Right now Brand Musk is not a good fit for Tesla.  He also has backed away from managing the company, also not a good sign.

The explication is very simply. The Tesla shares are, as any other, impacted by supply and demand. E. Musk head shareholder had to sell a lot of his shares periodically to cash for financing his numerous projects. The supply got oversaturated and the share value plunged. The perverse effect of this situation is that we find ourselves in a negative spiral. ie the more the value decreases, the more shares he will have to sell. This is the danger when a majority of shares are in possession of one party

I think it's much more about what the collective public influenced by fear vs. greed thinks any company is worth.  You have an unhinged bozo the clown CEO, the collective public gets freaked out and drives the price down.

Never read so much negative news-blips about Musk since he started exposing the influence they exerted with Twit's content, and what they allowed and or censored.

Like Trump, he is now the enemy of the puppeteers  ...  more drama to follow ????

More like Musk has exposed the flaws in ‘Brand Musk.

Of course  if you think in the long run Tesla is going to survive and thrive you might want to buy the bejeebers out of their stock.

Tesla Warns of Uncertainties as It Posts Record Profit

“We currently are seeing orders at almost twice the rate of production,” Mr. Musk said Wednesday after the company reported record quarterly profit for the final three months of 2022."

Current product demand for Tesla EV's exceeds current supply / production levels. Tesla is planning on spending north of $4B in plant expansions and adding new production facilities.

Musk is aiming for Tesla to sell 20 million vehicles every year by 2030, which would make it the largest automaker by volume.

I suspect that projection relies on competitors not producing EV's at higher rates than at present.

Could be that people prefer to buy Musks TESLA cars rather than any competitors ?

Even if they do, higher production by competitors is going to shrink Tesla sales. Musk has already reduced the price of his cars to maintain lagging sales so it wouldn't seem that's the case.

All depends on demand for your product. As EU transitions to green Musk could cash in.

Tesla has had to slash its prices because of low demand. So their profit margins are going to be considerably less going forward.

“We currently are seeing orders at almost twice the rate of production,”

Imagine Tesla EV demand exceeding your production capacity and you still drop the prices. and then your stock is up 5% 10% and you are making record profits last quarter.

And some would say he builds a better rocket than NASA, lol.

Sounds like a recipe to make money for the Musk, who last I checked is the wealthiest dude traversing the planet all the while saving democracy among other valiant undertakings.

He can do no wrong, he's more "famous than Cinderella."

Selling stock, driving the stock down and buying back in cheap would turn a profit too.

Over the past weekend some renowned investment wizard said they expect this stock to be 500% of its present value in 5 years.   Share price has jumped app. 25% since then.  Almost looks impressive enough to make one forget it was more than double this price four months ago.  Pump and dump.

IMO his nibs is the biggest liability, that Twitter silliness is more than just a pie-in-the-face embarrassment.  With the stuff the company has on the horizon (the semi, the pickup) some shrewdness will be required to make those successful, and is going to require more than posing with that chimpanzee grin and carrying a sink around for a laugh.

In the US that certain cultural (ahem!) group known for pickup trucks, guns, and the worship of a certain alleged billionaire has a disdain for EVs.  For some reason this hardly gets mention in US national media.

A long way to go for share holders to even think about a return on their investment from a year ago.

How does that compare to other big tech listed companies like Netflix, Meta and the rest? If they all fell a similar amount why is the framing here that only Tesla is suffering? Quite incredible seeing the bullying of Musk from the second he turned his back on the democrat party. Very interesting....

No idea, this is about Tesla not any other stocks, hence why there is that framing. Got it now?

Tesla’s Autopilot was once groundbreaking technology. But in a recent ranking by Consumer Reports, which tested advanced driver assistance systems from 12 different carmakers, Tesla’s ranked seventh and Ford’s BlueCruise was in the top spot.

The stock is down and will continue to go down because it's a hype company that at todays price is still ridiculously overvalued. I dont short but if I did Tesla would be a top candidate. Love what Musk is doing at Twitter so far though.

You want to take Musk's word for it? Right now he's being sued because of a claim he made that he was going to take Tesla private and had Saudi financing lined up. That's just one of many falsehoods he's shared with the public.

When you are Number 1, the leader at the top EVERY jealous and vindictive puzzle goes after you. The left hates Musk now that he exposed their lying and deceit on twitter. But with respect to this laughable civil suit, you should review and understand the facts before passing judgement.

Not everything in your hyper echo chamber is factual especially coming from the regime media. So have a read/analysis and share your informed conclusions:

The Absurdity of Elon Musk’s Fraud Trail

"Mainstream outlets perfectly content with shallow coverage as long as they can juxtapose "Elon" and "Fraud" in the same headline"

Thats not how the judge views it:

the federal judge said;“no reasonable jury could find Musk’s tweets on August 7, 2018 accurate or not misleading”

If he loses this case it could run into billions for him. Its also not a civil suit but a  "shareholder lawsuit"
