Eleftheros
The resurgence of measles last year claimed 128,000 deaths from 9 million cases in 22 countries, a surge attributed to lockdowns and lack of access to health care, specifically meaning a precipitous drop-off in the rate of immunization against measles, says The Telegraph. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/centuries-old-disease-now-becoming-imminent-global-threat/ WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “The paradox of the pandemic is that while vaccines against Covid were developed in record time and deployed in the largest vaccination campaign in history, routine immunisation programmes were badly disrupted, and millions of children missed out on life-saving vaccinations.” Another consequence of our far-sighted and noble leaders imposing their medical decrees on populations worldwide. placeholder
The claim is kind of undermined by this from the article: Ephrem Tekle Lemango, Unicef chief of immunisation, added: 'For three years, we have been sounding the alarm about the declining rates of vaccination and the increasing risk to children's health globally… The time for decisive action is now.' And this: Thursday, April 18, 2019 Decline in measles vaccination is causing a preventable global resurgence of the disease In 2000, measles was declared to be eliminated in the United States, when no sustained transmission of the virus was seen in this country for more than 12 months. Today, however, the United States and many other countries that had eliminated the disease are experiencing concerning outbreaks of measles because of declines in measles vaccine coverage. Without renewed focus on measles vaccination efforts, the disease may rebound in full force, according to a new commentary in the New England Journal of Medicine by infectious diseases experts at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health, and the Penn State University College of Medicine’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/decline-measles-vaccination-causing-preventable-global-resurgence-disease And there's this: Survey finds growing opposition to school vaccine mandates for measles A growing number of parents oppose requirements for routine vaccinations against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) in order for children to attend school, according to a new survey released Friday by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The survey found 35 percent of parents of children under age 18 oppose school vaccine requirements, up from 23 percent in 2019... Much like with COVID-19 vaccines, the growing opposition stems largely from people who identify as Republican or lean Republican. https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/3777996-survey-finds-growing-opposition-to-school-vaccine-mandates-for-measles/

Those viruses and bacteria will never be allowed through immigration so cannot exit those countries. Problem solved. Antivaxer are you?

I'm not frightened of a disease. I'm frightened by the antivaxers whose narrow mindedness will allow these (almost) eradicated diseases to gain foothold and overload the medical system. Many countries right now cannot handle the current respiratory diseases. How bad do you think it will be with all these eradicated diseases back in the mix? 1
300sd
Sure lets blame the ones who did not choose to take a covid jab, the antivaxers, for the recurrence of past diseases. As if everyone before 2020 was getting vaccines all the time.

Apart from common decency, which, to judge from this sentence, is a condition that you apparently you are not afflicted with, pandemics can take a big toll on the economy and affect access to medical care. internationalism
That increase is seen in 22 countries and likely contained to their territories, that because they scaled down vaccination programs. Doctors should spot this trend within weeks and react. There is surplus of those vaccines in most countries, so they can be easily imported. That judging from my measles and the other vaccinations which i had the last year in thailand - most were very close to expiry date, as if, indeed, demand was lower then in the previous years. WHO had also a chance to step in earlier to mitigate this situation. All vaccinations temporarily boost an immune system, so they also give partial protection to covid. But most importantly prevent coinfection with covid. In some countries in Europe parents do organise measles parties, where kids are infected on purpose. That instead of vaccination, to give them lifetime protection.
