The bodies of ten Thais who were killed in a Cambodian casino fire on Wednesday were brought back to Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo Province this morning (Friday), to be claimed by their relatives.

About 20 more bodies are believed still to be trapped in the ruins of the Grand Diamond City casino, as Thai and Cambodian rescue teams await confirmation from construction inspectors that the building is safe for them to enter to search for those still unaccounted for.

One of the rescuers said that there is a danger that the building may collapse and, therefore, an assessment of its safety by the inspectors is essential.

Makes one wonder how many of the large & small buildings in these poor countries are fire traps.

Yes indeed, but not only poor countries - possibly around the World! Reference the Grenfell Tower inferno of 2017 in London (UK). In its construction, dangerously combustible composite cladding and external insulation was used. (ref: Wikipedia). 72 persons died, 70 injured and 223 escaped. It will be interesting to see if an investigation into the Cambodian Casino tragedy finds whether combustible or fire-proof materials were used. The speed, spread and ferocity of the fire engulfing the building complex leaves me with no doubts!

A tower block (Grenfell Tower) burning on nearly all floors with large amounts of smoke rising, and water being sprayed at the building from firefighters.

Thanks Sheryl and can I quote (from Cambodia) the following for general reference:

The Cambodian casino and a hotel .............................reportedly belongs to fugitive Thai politician Vatana Asavahame. Over a year ago, Vatana offered to sell his two casinos in Cambodia – Grand Diamond City Hotel and Casino and Poipet Resort and Casino – for a combined price of 12 billion baht. The two venues are owned by Grand Exclusive Poipet Cambodia, and located in Poipet town.................it remains unclear whether they were sold.

Please feel free to delete should this contravene any of Thailand's infamous laws.
