I have tickets for the ASIAN CUP game between AUSTRALIA and THAILAND on the 16 JULY 2007 at the RAJAMANGALA STADIUM on Ramkamheang Road, Huamark, Bangkok. The game starts at 5.20 PM.

It is important for me to get there on time. I have previously been to games at the Supachalasai Stadium near the MBK Shopping centre, but I am not familiar with the RAJAMANGALA Stadium at Ramkamheang Road in HUAMARK, Bangkok.

I have been told by friends and board members to get to Thong Loe Sky train station (next to Ekamai BTS Station) and from there take a taxi to the RAJAMANGALA stadium. I know the BTR and the MTS in Bangkok fairly well.

I am thinking about booking into a hotel in Bangkok the night before. What time is a safe time to make it to the RAJAMANGALA Stadium from the hotel on Sukhumvit in time for the 5.20 PM start and which is the best route to take.

I know there will be more than 60000 mostly Thai fans trying to get to the game and there will be traffic congestion.

I would appreciate real good advice from members of this board who have been to the Rajamangala Stadium.

You could just book into the IBIS Hotel at Hua Mak, it's almost walking distance as it is just behind The Mall at Ramkhaemheng.

If you are going to use the BTS then I would suggest getting off at Phra Kanong and going up through Suk Soi 71. Traffic in that area at that time of the day can be a bit sticky though.

By the way, are you sure it's 5.20 start? I thought it was 7.30, I better go and check my ticket.

The Main entrance to the Stadium is on Ram Soi 24 ... there are a couple of hotels that are decent and cheap right on that street ... (approx 500 a night). If I manage to drive by them tmw I will try and catch the names of them. It could take hours to get clear from that area after the game ... so a hotel the night before and the night after may not be a bad idea.

good advice by other members about booking in to hotels near the stadium.

from past experience getting taxi to the Rajamangla stadium for a football game has been nightmarish.....we all know bkk traffic is bad....but let me tell you..for games like that.....its indescribable :o

but to give you an idea.....when I was going to the Liverpool vs Thailand game a few years ago...it was so bad that once we got to a turn....suppose to go right, taxi turned left.....practically refused to go further....dropped me off in the middle of Rama 9 road :D (those that know the road will have an idea how scary it can be to be stranded there!!) its funny thinking back now but it wasnt back then..... trying to get another taxi from there was impossible......traffic just didnt move.....no chance to find an empty cab!! so I kept walking...walked down a little bit....and then had all footie fans offer me a ride to the stadium :D ....(I was in footie jersey...so they knew where I was headed....)

good experience I guess :D

anyone know if the game will be broadcast overseas? Im gonna miss it :D cos not in Bangkok that day...

I remember that night too well. From the junction of Ramkamhaeng Road and Lad Prao Road to Pattanakan Road/Petchburi Road took me 3 hours by car.

I recommend that you stay at the Inter Place Hotel on Ramkamhaeng Soi 24 and directly opposite the stadium.

Address is 118/92 Ramkhamhaeng Rd., Bangkapi, Bangkok 10240

Check this link: Inter Place Hotel

Here are a couple of pointers to its exact location.

Addendum to Inter Place Hotel:

If you own a car then go very early in the morning. The hotel has a good indoor multi-floor car park and a great restaurant and the fresh crabs in the small market opposite are the best you'll find.

Thanks a lot for all the good advice again. I think I will bok into one of the nearby hotels after listening to all of your answers. :o

You are quite right. The game betweem AUS - THAI starts at 1935 on 16 JULY. They had the wrong information about the starting time on Thaiticketmaster a while ago. I booked into the Bangkok Inter Place Hotel about 80 metres from the stadium. Cheers :o

Hi... are there any parks near the stadium... just want to go with my son and kick a ball around... we're at the Ibis.

the only parks in this probably most overcrowded area of Thailand are CAR PARKS.

there is a full-sized football-pitch next to the stadium though, but I dont know if it will be open for the public during daytime and specifically on this day. some Farang-teams used to play there in the evening.

As for Ramkamhaeng Road, this will be without any doubt become the most apocalyptic day this congested area has ever seen in its history.

To book a hotel in walking distance is probably the smartest thing one could do. Surprising that they still did have rooms available. Alexander Hotel (about 1,5 km away) or Nasa Vegas (about 3-4 Km away and very much okay for just 590 Baht a night) would be worth considering as well.

IBIS is just PERFECT, congrats, StevieD

I.m not looking forward to that traffic jam on monday, it's gonna be bad, as if RMK road isn't bad anyway. We are leaving work at 3pm so will head straight down that way, so might get there early, but at least will give us time for a few cold ones before the game.

Go by boat along Khlong Saen Saeb.

You can get the boat from Pratunam, Suk soi 3, thong Lor, Ekamai etc. Get off at Ramkamheng 65.

Easily the best and fastest way to go.

That is a good way to go if you are coming from Sukhumvit, but I'm heading down from Kaesart area so going to have to use the roads, hopefully as we are leaving early shouldn't be too bad, probably get a Motorcycle from Big C Lat Prao down through RMK 41(I think).

You could go down LadPrao 122, it's probably faster if the traffic on LadPrao is not too bad.

Hua Mark (where the stadium is located) can easily double as a park. Every evening there are thousands of people there joggin playing football, badminton, sepak takraw etc. etc.

Check out the top right corner of that Google Earth picture on the previous page - this is a quitest area around, with a long and winding jogging track among the trees and thickets, and benches and romantic corners, and a big pond.

On the night of the game walking to and from the stadium is the best option, it's less than twenty minutes from Ibis or from Rama 9.

There is grass and open area all over near the stadium. It's an extremely popular exercise area. You could probably find a spot somewhere. Beware of the trees though. A friend of mine's mum was almost killed by a huge coconut or palm tree frond falling on her head while she exercised there in Hua Mark.
