Thai Rath reported that three charges had been made against Suthat Siwaphiromrat, 52, after last week's early morning collision on the expressway in Bangkok between a Bentley, a Pajero and a fire truck.

After tests on Suthat's blood he has been charged with:

1. Taking Ketamine

2. Driving under the influence of meth amphetamine and causing a serious accident

3. Negligent, reckless and scary driving.

The drugs charges could not be prosecuted by the expressway police so the matter is now being handled jointly by deputy commissioner Pol Col Sukit Arinrikthawin and the Thung Mahamek police department.

In a briefing at metropolitan police HQ yesterday spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek said that accident investigators were still examining the evidence for a potential speeding charge.

The Bentley was legally on the road but any illegal modifications are under investigation.

The RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat and a deputy called for the investigation to be transparent, fast and fair.

Meanwhile, Thai Rath also reported negotiations between "Sia Jap" - the tycoon's nickname - and the owner of the Pajero and the people injured in that vehicle.

In total he is paying out more than 2 million baht in payments for injuries suffered and repairs.

He is paying off the remaining hire purchase installments on the Pajero.

This 2 million baht will be paid next Friday.

Damage to the fire truck was settled last Friday when the tycoon paid 800,000 baht.

  • The fact that this case is still making the news shows that they are still bargaining about the thickness of the brown envelope or the lack of it.. ????

Paying reparations to the injured and for damaged vehicles will result

in greatly reduced punishment for the Bentley driver , business tycoon

allegedly taking Ketamine and Meth ! ,I thought Cocaine would have been

more his drug of choice .

Love it, being charged for "scary driving"   ????

At least he is maning up unlike the red bull heir Boss.  Still needs to serve some time for drug driving.  Maybe similar to this casino Chinese who tested positive.  Oh yeah they got to go home no mention of blacklisted.

Next time the BiB stop him he will be saying ' Don't you know who I was '.

Another one paying himself off. No problem. Buy a new car and do it again.

He didn't kill anyone.....  I think we’ll see a fine and a driving ban, perhaps a suspended sentence at the most...

What would someone in the US or UK receive for the same?....  I don’t think they’d end up in prison.

DUI causing an accident high on meth and at that speed? Custodial sentence pretty much guaranteed.

This man should be locked up. But, he is wealthy, so the chances are very low. He will likely be asked to pay a fine, then it will all go away.

Yeah, sadly if it'd been alc he'd have waied + walked already. It's the drugs they don't like, not the rest.

If it's cost him millions do you really think he'd do it again? Really?

If you have about 680 millions and 5 go away, that´s not a big deal.

He simply pick on the farmers instead of the Brits. You know, we all need something to get hooked on. Now you jump on him every time he make a comment too. Your starting to get busy, huh!

,7 percent of his wealth is as you say not a big deal , yet I understand the offender has a brother who is a politician and can not afford any more damage to his brothers reputation than needed .

Charged with scary driving!! I see that every day on Koh Samui

I dont know US or UK, but in Norway driving under influence of drug/alcohol is automatic prison-time.

I think he has to pay a new Pajero, fully paid AND finish the payments on the "old"one. Then additional some couple of million on personal damages and mental damages.

After paying, go to jail for a year and driver licence revoked for 5 years.

Depends on the amount - Mandatory prison sentence if over 0.15% BAC (in Norway).

I feel many seem to miss the point with regards to the difference between jail time and no reparation or reparation and negotiated less or no jail time. In my country if a drunk or drugged driver wrote off my vehicle and I only had third party insurance, the driver may well do prison time or not, but I have to cover the cost of my vehicle ( can be between 10-40 thousand dollars) the courts rarely give reparation as it must be requested and then few ever pay it . In this instance there were no serious injuries or death and since the man is able to pay reparation then as a victim I believe it to be fair to let the victims negotiate the reparation against reduced or no prison. Let the courts decide his fine for drugs or drink and of course the optional BIB envelope. Of course both systems are apt to victims losing out as in the Red Bull case as reparation to the wife was exceptionally and disgustingly small and He has not faced court for the drug or drink issue, but then as my friends say he is a slimy weasil with a filthy rat for a mother.
