Election Commission secretary-general Sawang Boonmee

 

Thailand’s Election Commission (EC) has instructed election directors in the country’s 77 provinces, including Bangkok, to keep a close watch on the activities of political parties and their candidates, especially incumbent ministers and political office holders, ahead of this year’s General Election.

 

The officials were told to report back to the EC any political activity which is in violation of election-related laws and to provide advice to candidates or potential candidates on how they should avoid breaking the law.

 

The next election is to take place in early May, if the House is not dissolved before the end of its term on March 24th.

And cue some most ridiculous allegations against some people to get them off the ballot papers

What price is a vote these days? Surely it's been adjusted to account for inflation since the last "election".

As if the EC is squeaky clean itself.

On the streets locals will get the usual 500 baht per vote.

Behind closed doors the price is negotiable depending on status..

If this type of rhetoric has already been brought to the public's attention, it's in the works.

In other words, junta leader General Prayut has ordered Thailand’s Election Commission to find reasons to abolish any political parties which are a threat to his re-election.
